Those of you who could make it out helped raise some cash for a great cause and got to share in an incredible night of music!

There were *so many* fantastic performances, but a highlight for us was when the incomparable Dave Murphy (Jeff Healey Blues Band) and Canadian music legend Randy Bachman, graciously and enthusiastically agreed to join us on stage for what turned into an *killer* 12 minute rendition of Neil Young’s ‘Like A Hurricane‘!

…so, for those who were there and those who couldn’t make it, we are very proud to be able to share the love with you now!



Hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did performing it!

Wow! What a great way to start off a week – another amazing review of Poppies, this time from legendary rock journalist/biographer, Jeffrey Morgan…

“SIZZLING PLATTER OF THE WEEK: Lamont James – Poppies (self released) :: You better go out and get yourself a box of push pins and a really big map ’cause this here Lamont James is all over it. First he comes across like some kinda cross between Aquashow era Elliott Murphy and The Beatles era John Lennon at their most acoustically mellow (“Today”). Next he morphs into Around The World In A Day era Prince (“Song Of You”) and Candy-O era Cars at their most synthesizer saturated (“Sorry”). Then he has the good sense smarts to plug it in and crank it up on a cover of Teenage Head’s seminal single “Picture My Face.” After that he deftly deconstructs things down with an ambient electronic instrumental like “Kaüzendüx” that eerily evokes Stockhausen at his short waviest. But best of all is track twelve which lasts all of twenty seconds and contains naught but a syncopated drum solo. “Hey,” thinks I at the five second mark, “this reminds me of ‘Premier Drums’ on The Who Sells Out.” So I take a look to see what the song title is and wouldn’t ya know that it says: “Moonie.””

What an incredible night! Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support for this great cause! Thanks so much to the fantastic staff and crew at the Sound Academy who made our job immeasurably easier and an extra-special thanks to all the wonderful and *ridiculously talented* performers that we had the honour of sharing a stage with… Dave Murphy, Dan Noordermeer, Danny Marks, Steve Strongman, Pat-freakin’-Rush (the two of you on Whipping Post were astounding!), Toney Wild T Springer, Chuck Jackson (of Downchild who drove in straight from a house gig in Brantford 5 minutes before his set and *slayed* the crowd!), Jack de Keyzer, Robin Banks, Juno award winners MonkeyJunk and the legendary Randy Bachman, who graciously and enthusiastically agreed (along with Dave Murphy on keys) to join us on stage for what turned into an *EPIC* 12 minute rendition of Neil Young’s ‘Like A Hurricane’… Pure freakin’ joy in a room filled with love and incredible music, completely devoid of egos…

ROCK FOR JEFF HEALEY PARK:

CANADIAN MUSICIANS COME TOGETHER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUND IN HONOUR OF LATE GUITAR HERO

After guitarist Jeff Healey died in 2008, fans, friends and fellow musicians spearheaded a drive to rename a park in his neighbourhood in his honour. Now a distinguished group of Canadian musicians — all friends of Healey — are taking part in a benefit concert to raise money to acquire special playground equipment to make Etobicoke’s Jeff Healey Park more accessible for children with disabilities.

WHO: A special concert featuring RANDY BACHMAN, PAUL JAMES, JACK DE KEYZER, DANNY MARKS, LAMONT JAMES, TONY ‘WILD T’ SPRINGER, DAVE MURPHY BAND

WHAT: A benefit concert to fund the acquisition of special playground equipment for disabled children at Jeff Healey Park

WHEN: Thursday April 12. Doors 8 p.m.; Show @ 9.00 p.m.

WHERE: The Sound Academy, 11 Polson St., Toronto.

TICKETS: $25.00 in advance, $30.00 at door. On sale this Wednesday MARCH 28, 10 a.m., at www.ticketmaster.ca

Of all the artists to come from the Toronto scene, Jeff Healey holds a special place. His internationally acclaimed talent and unique style of playing set him apart as a musician.

He was also living proof that, with enough talent and determination, anyone can accomplish anything.  Blind from a little over a year old, he approached life by focusing on his abilities as a musician, never thinking of himself as a person disabled or handicapped by his lack of sight; by example and achievement, he became a role model for many disabled people.

In April 2011, the City of Toronto recognized Jeff’s contribution to Canadian music and his community by naming a park near his boyhood home in Toronto’s west end “Jeff Healey Park.” Now his musical friends are taking things to the next level — with a special benefit concert April 12 at The Sound Academy to raise funds for special playground equipment for the park.
